General Information

Symposium Venue

Registration and the Opening Ceremony of the Symposium will take place in Monastery of Trinitarian Church in Bratislava, Októbrové námesite 1. After the Opening Ceremony, Cultural Program and Welcome Reception, all participants will be transported to Smolenice, about 60 km northeast of Bratislava. The rest of the Symposium program will take place in Smolenice Castle.

DAILY ACCESS TO THE CABLE INTERNET IS GUARANTEED. WIRELESS CONNECTION IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE CASTLE.

VISAS

The participants from European Union, USA, Japan, Australia and the majority of other countries will not require to have visas to enter Slovakia. However, you are strongly advised to inquire at the Slovak Embassy in your country to determine visa requirements. For example, visa is required for these countries: Russia, China, India, Turkey, states of former Soviet Union, all African states, etc.

TRANSPORTATION

ARRIVAL:
Bratislava is easily accessible from Vienna. The Symposium organizers will provide free bus transportation. A special bus will leave Vienna International Airport (Schwechat) for Bratislava at 13:00 on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Please indicate on the Registration Form if you are interested in using this chartered bus, as it is essential to know the exact number of passengers beforehand.
It is possible to rent a car in Vienna, which can then be returned to the rental agency in Bratislava. Those who do not register for the bus will have to arrange their own transportation to Bratislava.
After the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception in the Monastery in Bratislava, free bus transportation will be provided to Smolenice at 20.00 h. Boarding starts 15 min before bus departure. No further transportation will be provided from Bratislava to Smolenice Castle by the Symposium organizers.

DEPARTURE:
Buses to Bratislava and to Vienna International Airport (Schwechat) will leave Smolenice Castle on Thursday, June 30, 2011 after breakfast around 9.00 a.m.
Please indicate in the Registration Form if you are interested in taking the chartered bus from Smolenice to Bratislava, or to Vienna International Airport (Schwechat).

ACCOMMODATION

The majority of accepted participants will be housed in Smolenice Castle. Some participants, especially those with accompanying members, will be accommodated in vicinity of the Smolenice Castle. There is only a very limited number of single rooms in the Castle, so that almost all participants will have to be assigned to multiple occupancy rooms.

Language

The official language of the Symposium is English.

PROJECTION

Data projection (in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003) will be available. No other type of projection will be offered. We will use only IBM computer, therefore please save your presentation in IBM format and bring it on CD or USB. No other computers (including personal laptops) will be connected to data projector. Preview room with IBM computer will be accessible to check the presentation.

IRWIN J. KOPIN AWARD

This award will provide travel funds for 1-2 junior investigators to attend the Symposium on Catecholamines and Other Neurotransmitters in Stress.

Award winner will present his/her research in oral presentation at the meeting and will be awarded personally by Dr. Kopin at the Opening Ceremony of the Symposium.

To be eligible, individuals must be in the formative stages of their careers (Ph.D. students, or less than 8 years post-PhD or after the last advanced degree, e.g. MD).

To apply, please submit by February 15, 2011 to the Symposium Chairman via e-mail (ueenkvet@savba.sk) the following information:

- Abstract of work to be presented
- Curriculum vitae
- Projected travel costs (including the registration fee). Please provide “supersaver” rates
- Letter of reference. This should be sent separately by the letter writer to Richard Kvetnansky (ueenkvet@savba.sk)
